2019 British Academy Film Awards Nominations | Paul Edmonds London

Wednesday 9th January saw Hayley Squires and Will Poulter announce the 2019 British Academy Film Award Nominations and as the official hair partner, Paul Edmonds London was there every step of the way! And meaning every step…we started the morning at 5am to style the talented Hayley Squires for her live 7.30am announcement. We first met Hayley last year as Emma styled her for the 2018 awards and she is most known for her amazing lead role in I, Daniel Blake, BAFTA Outstanding British Film winner 2018.

Get The Look

Hayley opted for a low bouncy pony for her announcement. This look is great if you want your locks out of your face but styled to perfection. To create this look at home Emma did the following…

  1. Cleanse and condition the hair with Shu Uemura Muroto Volume shampoo and conditioner, this will allow your pony to have a slight height and bounce.
  2. Prep towel-dried hair with Shu Uemura Blow Dry Beautifier to protect against blow dry heat. This product is great if you like re-creating your styles for the next day and the clever ingredient Ginkgo Biloba memorises shaped looks, allowing it to be super easy to re-create before you wash your hair again.
  3. Blow dry the hair into big rollers. To do this take a big round brush and your hairdryer and smooth the hair using the brush in one hand, hair in the middle and the hairdryer in your other hand to direct the hair down while curling under. The best way to do this is by sectioning the hair into manageable parts which allow you to place a roller at the end of the hair and curl downwards towards the scalp. Top Tip- your sections do not need to be neat, this will help provide natural volume.
  4. Once all the hair is positioned in rollers, blast the curls with the cold setting of your hairdryer and leave the hair to cool- this is the perfect time to do your make up!
  5. Once cooled, gently take the rollers out and allow the hair to fall. This is a great time to spray the hair with Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer hairspray to hold your volumised curls into place.
  6. To create the low pony, pull the hair back into position and secure with a hair tie, which is of a similar colour to your hair. Another spritz of Sheer Lacquer here will help secure the band.
  7. All great ponytails are done to look in position but effortless to create this look, take a small section of the now create ponytail and loop this around the hair band, this will hide the band allowing a polished finish. Secure with a bobby pin, the same colour as your hair.
  8. To finish rub a tiny amount of Shu Uemura Essence Absolue in your fingertips and run through the ends of the ponytail, by doing this, you will also help mold the bounce while adding shine. Finally, finish by spraying Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer all over for hold.
