EE BAFTA Rising Star Nominations 2019 | Paul Edmonds London

Tuesday 3rd of January at 7am saw the BAFTA 2019 season officially start! As the official hair partner of the EE British Academy Film Awards, Paul Edmonds London will be on hand throughout to style the stars, hosts and fantastic BAFTA officials throughout the season. With over 30 years experience in creating timeless red carpet looks, we’re proud to be this season’s celebrity hair stylists.

For the first event of the BAFTAs, Alfie and Lizzie, (who you can book in our Battersea and Knightsbridge hair and beauty salons)  arrived at 195 Piccadilly for the ‘EE Rising Star Nomination’ announcement.

This award is the only BAFTA voted by the public and recognises new and emerging talent. Find out what Alfie and Lizzie got up to, how you can get the looks they created, and find out who’s been nominated for the #EERisingStar 2019 award below.

Edith Bowman, EE Rising Star Nomination Announcement Host

The host of the 2019 EE Rising Star nomination announcements was Edith Bowmen, Radio DJ and presenter of music TV shows and festivals. Alfie met Edith last year at the 2018 announcement so for this year they caught up and discussed this year’s look. Edith opted for a loose wave for a relaxed but done look.

Get The Look – How to Recreate Edith Bowman’s Loose Waves

To create Edith’s look, Alfie and Lizzie started by combing her hair through to detangle. To protect the hair from heat, you can dampen the hair with a spray water bottle and apply a small amount of Shu Uemura BB serum to help smooth and shape the look.

Next, Alfie sectioned the hair into smaller manageable parts and started to tong, using a large barrel. To create a wave (rather than a curl) Alfie ensured the tonging was placed in the same direction. If you wanted to create a curled look, alternate the directions you are tonging the hair. In Edith’s case, Alfie curled the hair around the barrel tong outwards instead of curling the hair towards the face.

Continue to do this around the head, taking each section at a time. For a tighter hold, use smaller sections of hair, but if you would like a looser look, take larger sections and tong. If you are creating this look and you are wanting it to last, create a tighter curl,  as this will allow time for the hair to drop while still holding the style.

Once all sections have been tonged, loosing using your fingers, shake out the waves. For a more done look, use a comb to place the hair toward. Shu Uemura Essence Absolue is great for adding shine to finished looks while Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer is perfect for a long-lasting hold.

Amanda Berry, Chief Executive, BAFTA

Amanda Berry, OBE is the Cheif Executive of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and friend of Paul Edmonds London since meeting at the salons first year as the official hair partner in 2018.

Alfie also met Amanda last year as she visited our style suite at The Savoy last year, where we had our pop up Paul Edmonds London salon to style VIPS for the BAFTA weekend of parties and the award ceremony.

Get The Look – Amanda Berry’s Natural Curls

Amanda opted for a natural look with body which Alfie created by section the hair and by blow drying into pin curls. To create this look at home, Alfie’s top tip is to warm your styling brush before starting. To do this, just use your hair dryer to warm the bristles for a soft, smooth look.

To start, section your hair into manageable areas and blow dry with a medium-sized round brush. To do this, pull the hair around the brush to smooth and add volume by applying heat to the roots. To create a pin curl, once blow dried around the brush, use your fingertips to mould the hair into a curl and pin to hold. For more movement, pin the curl tighter. Alfie opted for looser pin curls to create a smooth look.

To ensure your look lasts, layer Shu Uemura Sheer lacquer until you have the hold strength your hair needs.

Nomination Announcement

Once Edith and Amanda were ready the announcement could commence! There was a great atmosphere at BAFTA HQ and the audience of the press took to their seats to find out who a fabulous panel had nominated for this year’s award.

Paul Edmonds London would like to wish a huge congratulations to the following talent for their EE Rising Star Nomination…
