Is your neck feeling neglected? Get the latest Profhilo neck treatments at Paul Edmonds London
How do you feel about the skin around your neck? We tend to spend a great deal of time and energy – not to mention our beauty budgets – on our faces, but our necks don’t often get the same treatment. Why is that, when they are equally prone to the signs of ageing?
It could be down to the simple fact that there just hasn’t been a product or treatment on the market to effectively tackle that crêpey effect below the jawline. Normal fillers can create lumps and bumps in this area and there hasn’t been a solution that offers the benefits of enhanced elastin and ‘snap’ … until now.
For this post, we asked Paul Edmonds London’s Advanced Medical Practitioner, Sharon Gilshenan, to explain how Profhilo neck treatments can help spread that youthful glow a little further south.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that is used to treat skin laxity and remodel sagging tissue. HA is an ingredient in a vast number of topical skin treatments, but Profhilo makes it available in high concentrations as an injectable.
Profhilo isn’t a standard dermal filler and it won’t reduce heavy lines, but it’s great for plumping the finer lines that give skin around the neck area that crêpey look. Consider it more as an enhanced skin booster that creates a subtle change in texture, rehydrating and smoothing the skin’s surface for a naturally healthy, dewy glow.
How does Profhilo work?
Your practitioner will inject Profhilo under the skin’s surface using a tiny needle. There, it spreads out and releases HA slowly over a month, which in turn stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to tighten and lift the skin.
You’ll start to see a difference after a week or so – and that’s just the start! The HA will keep stimulating the production of collagen and elastin for four weeks, at which point you should return to a Paul Edmonds London salon for your second treatment. The effects of the two sessions will last up to a year.
Is Profhilo right for me?
Profhilo neck treatments are ideal for those over 40 who are starting to see the skin around their neck area sagging or drooping.
The injections themselves are not considered painful, but anaesthetic cream is available if desired. You may feel a stinging sensation as the HA liquid is pushed into the skin, but this passes quickly. Depending on the area to be treated, you can expect each appointment to last around 60 minutes.
Downtime is minimal. You may see small red bumps, similar to mosquito bites, for three to four hours following your treatment and possibly into the following day, but often these are barely noticeable.
How do I get the most from a Profhilo neck treatment?
By combining the Profhilo technique with an ultra-fine filler, we can pull back the skin on the neck to give it a tighter, more youthful appearance. Your practitioner may also suggest wrinkle reduction injections, as these can help to support and improve the overall look of the neck area.
It’s important to consider the jawline too; the ideal approach is to treat it together with the neck, as would traditionally be done with surgery. Over time, the jawline can suffer from bone resorption – on younger people the jawline appears sharper, but as we age it becomes less defined – so filler can help by lifting skin tissue to reduce wattle effects on the neck.
Cervical necklines can also appear more prominent with age. These have been difficult to treat in the past, as filler can produce a ‘lumpy’ effect. With the Profhilo technique, ultra-fine filler can be injected into each line to reduce its appearance without increasing volume, making the neck (along with the jawline enhancement) appear smoother overall.
