2019 BAFTA Red Carpet Trends with Paul Edmonds London

The 2019 BAFTAs saw actors, nominees and celebrities take to the red carpet at one of the most glamorous events in the award ceremony calendar. Paul Edmonds London, official hair partner of the EE British Academy Film Awards and BAFTA member himself talks us through the trends of this year’s red carpet while pointing out who wore the look well and who maybe needs to chage their style for next year!

BAFTA and Paul Edmonds London are both strong brands committed to nurturing new talent with a creative flare. There is a true synergy between the two institutions celebrating a rich history in all things authentically British.” – Paul Edmonds

2019 BAFTA Trends

Paul Edmonds and his team of experts as the official hair partner styled an array of talent for the awards prior and backstage including Margot Robbie, Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, Olga Kurylenko, Thandie Newton, Zawe Ashton, Jason Issacs, Joesph Finnes, Steeve Coogan, Freya Mavor, Lakeith Stanfield, Amma Asante & Bill Nighy and more.

Paul Edmonds, shares his thoughts on the key looks of the evening (Sunday 10th February) from backstage and the trends we can expect for the rest of the 2019 awards season.

Sleek

Thandie Newton wore the sleek straight hair to absolute perfection. To wear this look, your hair condition is key, as the style is super shiny. Simply place your parting in the centre with your sides tucked behind the ear – and Olga Kurylenko style is completely sleek.

Up-dos

 –          “Despite the trend for undone and relaxed waves, sculptured glamorous styles continue to be a red-carpet favourite. Margot Robbie, Amy Adams and Lily Collins all opt for this ultra-glamourous look for the red-carpet, with sculpted and ultra-styled up-dos.”

Margot wore a stylishly sophisticated side roll (meaning her hair was sculpted to the side) and it was pulled into a French pleat. It’s great to see Margot on the BAFTA stage as she is a client of Paul Edmonds London Knightsbridge and Battersea salons!

Soft Waves and Natural

Michelle Yeoh looked great obviously a soft wave very wearable. if you want a blow dry in 2019 this is the way to do it, soft waves with tongs will stay in fashion throughout all seasons. To create this look at home use the Shu Uemura Blow Dry Beautifiers, run a small amount through your mid lengths and ends to create a look that lasts.

For natural hair Viola Davis nailed it! She got height and wore curls for an ultimate glamour look. Mary J Blige rocked it  and if you want to make a statement on the red carpet then go for the bronde (brunette/blonde) with heavy roots. Caramel tones with power curls also look super glam.

Braids and Chignons

–         “Undone braids and chignon’s have already been a key look this awards season so far, with Maya Jama, Kate Middleton, Millie Mackintosh and Niomi Smart (styled by the Paul Edmonds team) leading the pack at the 2019 BAFTAs. Each proves this understated yet glamourous look can perfectly compliment a red-carpet look.”

Not on Trend

Elizabeth Dibinki, on the other hand, may need to change her style for future red carpets as her undone and messy short bob-ish was not ideally glamour ready. If Elizabeth wore this look straight and super sleek, she would own the red carpet a lot more!
