ORIBE LAUNCHES IN SALON: GET TO KNOW THE ICONIC HAIR BRAND

We're thrilled to announce the arrival at Paul Edmonds of a legendary hair brand.

Oribe luxury haircare products - now available in salon and online - offer innovative ingredients and incredible results combined with an impressive fashion industry heritage and sustainability credentials.

"Oribe has a fantastic range of products that can achieve multiple different styles, plus it's vegan, it's not tested on animals and it's sulphate-free," says Paul. "We know our clients are going to love the high-end feel of the products."

Standing out in a sea of minimalist packaging, the colourful and curvaceous Oribe bottles are a thing of beauty: "You'd be quite happy and proud of them sitting on your bathroom shelf when your friends come round."

When it comes to hair styling, it's what's inside that counts, and these products are packed with ingredients that will nourish and enhance your locks, from shampoo and conditioner through to that final spritz of hair spray.

Here's everything you need to know about the Oribe brand and the hero products to invest in…

DESIGNED FOR CATWALKS AND COVER GIRLS

Founded by Cuban hairdresser Oribe Canales, the brand has its roots in the 1980s New York fashion scene.

Oribe Canales

"Oribe Canales was a renowned session stylist who worked with photographer Stephen Meisel styling the hair of supermodels like Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista for Vogue cover shoots," Paul explains.

"He also did the hair for runway shows for all the big brands of the era like Versace, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld."

Later teaming up with pop star Jennifer Lopez, with whom he worked for 20 years, Canales used all of his industry experience and expertise to create the Oribe product line, which he launched in 2008.

Canales died in 2018, but his name lives on - and it's important to note that Oribe isn't pronounced how it's spelt.

Paul says: "When he first moved to the US, everyone called him 'Or-bay' because they couldn't actually say Oribe, and now it's stuck."

LIKE SKINCARE FOR HAIR

Unlike other brands, where cocktailing of products is encouraged, with Oribe it's all about layering foundation and finishing products in the right order, similar to the way you apply skincare before make-up.

"Canales believed that in order to achieve beautiful end-product hair, you had to start with a great base, so the treatment and shampoo lines are there to support the styling and finishing ranges," Paul says.

The high-performance products are categorised for use on the roots, mid-lengths or ends of the hair because the porosity (the amount of moisture it will absorb) varies between these sections.

Paul explains: "If you use styling products on their own they won't necessarily deliver their best performance unless you've resolved the porosity of their hair beforehand with a treatment product."

The Oribe range also extends to skincare and lifestyle products including hand wash and lotion, candles and incense sticks, and a luxurious lip treatment balm.

SCENTS AND SUSTAINABILITY

All Oribe hair products (apart from the scalp treatments) are infused with the brand's much-loved signature scent, Cote D'Azur, which is also available to buy as an eau de parfum.

"Canales wanted to bring the sophistication of the South of France to the products," Paul says. "Cote D'Azur is quite sexy, it has notes of edelweiss, lychee and watermelon extract, plus sandalwood gives it a little bit of depth."

As well being proudly vegan and cruelty-free, the brand offers eco-friendly refill pouches that help to reduce plastic usage, and supersized 1L bottles of some shampoos and conditioners so you can stock up more economically.
