Get the look – Emma Thompson
Saving Mr Banks, the story of Walt Disney and the ‘real’ Mary Poppins, is currently wowing critics and audiences alike. At the recent premiere in London’s Leicester Square, the film’s stars, Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, took to the red carpet to charm the thousands of fans who’d waited for hours to see them. Behind the scenes, Paul Edmonds and the team were on hand to make sure Emma looked every inch the glamorous star on the night.
After the dark brown 50s-style perm that Emma’s character featured in the movie, it was important that we restore the hair’s colour and condition – as well as give Emma a gorgeous, red-carpet-ready style. Paul created a soft, choppy bob with beautiful softness, movement and shine.
‘Emma naturally has wonderfully thick hair, so I created a versatile bob shape that looks effortless and modern,’ explains Paul. ‘It’s a style that works well whether Emma decides to wear it with or without a fringe – it can be tucked back, or left to frame her face. The cut follows through to the nape, which adds to the softness of the style.’
To complement the cut, colour expert Clare began by carefully lightening Emma’s hair back to her natural shade. Creamy blonde highlights, one of AW 2013’s key trends, give the colour a contemporary edge.
Finally, our nail technician Shradha worked her magic. Emma’s premiere-night nails featured Essie’s ‘Sugar Daddy’ on her hands, and Jessica’s ‘Royal Red’ layered with ‘Bedazzled’ on her toes. The result, we’re sure you agree, was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
