The latest edition of London Fashion Week, which showcased the spring/summer 2027 fashion collections, also delivered some gorgeous hair inspo, and there’s no need to wait until next season to try these catwalk looks. Here, the team from Paul Edmonds London reveal their three favourite hair trends from the London shows and describe how to style them yourself.
1. BURBERRY’S WINDSWEPT WAVES
The look: "At Burberry, the hair had an undone, almost windswept feel, but as a hairdresser, I can tell a lot of effort went into making it look effortless. For the most part, models’ naturally wavy texture was enhanced, or if they had straight hair, it looked like it was waved with tongs, and then a wax or oil was put through to give it high shine and definition. The hair was left down or side-parted and tied into a very loose ponytail with just one bobby pin holding it back above the ear. This kind of look suits everyone because it's based on their natural texture and is easy to recreate at home.” –Paul Edmonds
How to style it: "It's all about using the right products. If your hair is naturally wavy, a matte wax applied through the lengths will give that windswept texture. If you prefer a more glossy finish – and gloss is a big trend in hair at the moment – then you’ll need a texture spray to bring out the fluffiness, then an oil or shine spray applied through the lengths and ends.” –Sophia, stylist.
2. RICHARD QUINN’S CHIC CHIGNON
The look: "This was a big contrast to a lot of other shows. The models at Richard Quinn had their hair slicked back into a chignon with a 1950s-style ‘kiss curl’ brought forward on the forehead. The chignons were very tight and positioned at the back of the head, and the hair was extremely smooth and glossy. This is very elegant, clean hair that works well for special occasions or party season.”– Paul
Who does it suit? "This is one of those looks that might not suit everyone, because it’s very slicked back and quite severe, but depending on where you place the chignon makes a big difference in terms of complementing your face shape. If you place it higher up, that’s better for some people because it takes the emphasis away from the jawline. Personalisation can help to make an up-do more flattering.”– Paul
How to style it: "With any up-do, it helps to start on day two or three hair to get more grip. The longer you leave it after washing, the better. After blow drying with a heat protector and mousse or oil, decide if you want a low, middle, or high chignon, then apply gel from the roots and use a bristle brush to smooth any flyaways as you pull the hair into the ponytail and tie it. Twist and wrap the lengths around the hair tie and pin to create the chignon, but leave one section out for your kiss curl. Wrap that section until it’s the right length, then flip it over to the temple and use gel to fan it into the right shape. Fix it in place with lots of hair spray, then finish with shine spray on top.”– Sophia
3. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN’S SLICK STRANDS
The look: "Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting people try the spiky silver hair ‘horns’ that some of the Alexander McQueen models had! Alongside that avant-garde look, there were lots of models with beautifully glossy brunette locks. Parted in the middle, their hair had a loose boho wave and an almost wet-look finish. It really tapped into the trend for shiny, healthy, hydrated hair, which looks good whatever colour hair you have.” –Paul
How to style it: "How you create this look depends on the individual's natural texture. In most cases, you’ll start by blow drying roughly with a heat-protecting styling spray like Shu Uemura Tsuki Shape, which gives hold but doesn’t weigh the hair down. If you need more of a wave, go in with heated tongs but only through the lengths and ends, and don’t hold the tongs in place for too long. You want the hair to be really smooth at the roots, so finish with a gel wax like Oribe Fiber Groom. To add shine through the lengths but keep the softness and break up the waves, run a few drops of oil or shine serum through with your fingers.”– Sophia
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What hairstyles are trending after London Fashion Week?
A: Three looks stood out from the spring/summer 2027 shows for the team at Paul Edmonds London: Burberry’s romantic, windswept waves with high shine and loose ponytails held back with a single bobby pin; Richard Quinn’s immaculate, slicked-back chignon with and a 1950s-style kiss curl at the temple; and Alexander McQueen’s middle-parted brunette waves with a glossy finish, tapping into the ongoing trend for visibly healthy, hydrated hair.
Q: Is the side parting back in fashion?
A: The side part made an appearance at Burberry, where models wore their hair loosely swept to one side and held back with a bobby pin above the ear. It's a relaxed, effortless take rather than anything structured, which chimes in with the undone, natural aesthetic seen at many of the London Fashion Week shows this season.
Q: What hair products do I need to recreate runway hair?
A: It depends on the look. For Burberry's windswept waves, you'll need a texture spray and a shine oil or matte wax depending on your desired finish. The Richard Quinn chignon calls for a strong gel, a bristle brush, hairspray and a shine spray. For Alexander McQueen's glossy waves, you’ll need a heat protection spray, a gel wax for the roots and a few drops of oil through the lengths.
