P-TIOX: The revolutionary new anti-ageing serum from SkinCeuticals

New from SkinCeuticals, P-TIOX Wrinkle-Modulating Peptide Serum is being hailed as a skincare game-changer.

The latest launch from the wizards behind cult classics such as C E Ferulic and HA Intensifier, P-TIOX is an innovative serum proven to reduce nine types of expression lines.

Inspired by botulinum toxin injections (of which Botox is one), it's formulated to work alongside these types of injectables, but is also incredibly effective if you haven't had any wrinkle-freezing treatments.

So how does it work, and should you add it to your skincare routine? Read on to find out everything you need to know about P-TIOX Wrinkle-Modulating Peptide Serum…

THE SCIENCE BEHIND SKIN AGEING

To understand why P-TIOX Wrinkle-Modulating Peptide Serum is so impressive, let's examine how wrinkles form and the injectables used to eradicate them.

As we age, there is a gradual decline in collagen and elastin, the building blocks of our skin, starting from around the mid-20s.

Combined with muscle movement, wrinkles form in some places more than others - that's why we call them laughter, smile or frown lines.

Crow's feet may become more pronounced around our eyes, horizontal or vertical lines might appear on the forehead, and nasolabial folds (aka marionette lines) may deepen.

To return to youthful smoothness, neuromodulators such as botulinum toxin (brand names include Botox and Xeomin) are injected at the wrinkle site, inhibiting muscle contraction and reducing the appearance of expression lines.

According to the Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, around 9.2 million botulinum toxin procedures are carried out each year, making this the most popular aesthetic treatment globally.

However, some areas of the face aren't traditionally treated with these injections as neurotoxins won't be effective.

HOW DOES SKINCEUTICALS P-TIOX REDUCE WRINKLES?

Given the popularity of anti-wrinkle injections, the product developers at SkinCeuticals theorised that a topical skincare product could complement these treatments by targeting three factors not addressed by botulinum toxin (radiance, texture and hydration) and the facial areas that aren't injected.

To that end, P-TIOX Wrinkle-Modulating Peptide Serum is formulated with five innovative active ingredients.

Firstly, a pair of powerful peptides. Acetyl hexapeptide-8 is a neurotransmitter-inhibiting peptide designed to interrupt the look of expression lines. It also has moisturising and collagen-preserving properties.

Combined with dipeptide diaminobutyrol, this amino acid duo reduces the formation of fine lines by influencing the skin's response to repeated muscle movements.

The other three active ingredients are intended to create the coveted 'glass skin' radiance that has become a huge beauty trend in recent years.

Poly hydroxy acid is a effective but gentle exfoliant; laminaria extract, derived from seaweed, is a potent source of nutrients and antioxidants that promotes firmness and plumpness; and niacinamide aka vitamin B3 increases moisture retention.

Clinical test results show that after one week of use, P-TIOX Serum visibly improves the smoothness of skin, refines the appearance of pores and reveals that glass skin glow.

After 12 weeks of use, the serum helps to reduce the appearance of expression lines in nine areas neurotoxin injections do not treat: nasolabial folds; forehead wrinkles; glabellar wrinkles; crow's feet; cheek folds; marionette wrinkles; dynamic under-eye wrinkles; inter-ocular lines; and global fine lines.

HOW TO USE P-TIOX SERUM

P-TIOX Wrinkle-Modulating Peptide Serum is intended to be used twice a day as part of your usual skincare routine.
