Get the look: Paul’s signature hair trends for 2023

From choppy, layered shag cuts to soft, glossy waves and everything in between – the biggest hair trends for 2023 are versatile, natural, and easy to care for at home.

Paul and his team have been hard at work in the salon recently helping clients embrace new, tailored looks for the year ahead. Here’s a breakdown of some of the most-requested styles.

Paul’s hair trend predictions for 2023

The super-naturals

2023 is all about natural hair, and we mean super-natural. We’re seeing fresh, effortlessly long hair styles with easy-to-maintain, smudged out roots and lived-in colours. The super-natural trend is all about ease and simplicity over fussy and complicated. It’s hair that looks like you just rolled out of bed – in the best possible way.

Golden blonde

Blondes

When you think blonde, you might think high-maintenance. By using interlinked colour techniques like highlights, micro lights and tipping, we can create effortless hybrid colours. 2023 is all about the golden, pearlescent blondes – paired with smudged roots so you can channel your inner Heidi Klum for the perfectly imperfect, undone look.

Chestnut brown

Chestnuts

Brunettes are embracing the super-natural look, too, combining muted chestnut shades and shadow lights for a multi-tonal style. This trend takes a step away from deep vibrancy and replaces it with timeless, muted coffee colours that look and feel healthier than ever.

Soft copper

Coppers

Warm tones have knocked ashy coolness off the top spot for 2023, and muted copper is the perfect way to achieve the look. This year is all about the classic auburns and soft, neutral rose-golds. A great transition colour for blondes looking to experiment – it’s natural, but better.

To keep your super-natural hair looking great between appointments, the Davines Alchemic range is designed to top up and maintain your colour. Featuring shampoos and conditioners with pure pigments to intensify and brighten both natural and cosmetically coloured hair – there’s a shade for everyone with colours ranging from golden and copper to tobacco and chocolate.

To cleanse your hair without stripping the colour, opt for Davines Minu shampoo and conditioner. Its rich and full-bodied formula helps to illuminate the colour while nourishing and restoring shine.

Shags & bobs

Shags and Bobs

In 2023, we’re moving on from the mullet micro-trend – embracing choppier layers and softer textures with shag cuts and bobs instead. As an extension of the super-natural trend, these styles are a little shorter, edgier, and a bit sexier, but with the same relaxed and slightly dishevelled style.

Bobs are stronger this year, with hidden layers underneath for a high impact, low maintenance, and unbelievably versatile look. Think less school-teacher and more Hailey Bieber for that super cool, off-duty-model vibe.

“Shorter styles are my favourite at the moment,” says Paul, “there’s something about a dual-length, textured bob that feels fresh and new this year. Hidden layers underneath give the hair more movement, making it a really versatile look for 2023.”

A fringe for everyone

Fringes

If you’re not ready to take the plunge and go for a shorter style, you can hold onto your long locks and still embrace a new look this year with a fringe. Just like 2022, curtain bangs are a major trend. Adding a wispy, face-framing fringe like Paris Jackson’s can give a softer, more textured look to any mid-long hair.

But in 2023, it’s not all about the curtains. We’re seeing super low side partings and Wednesday Addams-inspired heavy full fringes, as well as more textured looks. With different styles cropping up everywhere, there’s a fringe for everyone this year. Speak to your stylist about which one will work best for your face shape and bone structure.

Men’s hair trends

Thanks to the likes of TV shows Stranger Things and Sex Education, 80s fashion has been a major trend for a while now. We’re still seeing a lot of length in men’s hair at the moment, and it’s no surprise they’re looking back to the 80s for inspiration on how to style it.

The perm returns

Perms

Due to the semi-permanent and low-maintenance nature of a perm, a lot of men are embracing this classic treatment. Whether opting for a full head of curls, or just a curly top with short sides – the boy-perm is still very much in style.

Controlled mullets

Mullet

For a really bold look, the modern mullet is perfect for men who don’t take themselves too seriously. While the 80s vibe was a bit unruly, we’re seeing neater, more controlled styles with slightly faded up sides for a 21st century take on the trend.

Soft natural curls

Harry

For those blessed with natural curls like Harry Styles, it’s your time to embrace the effortless look. Whether you opt for shoulder length, beachy waves or slightly shorter and swept back for Harry’s signature look – men’s soft curls are here to stay for 2023.

To nourish and define those curls, apply a small amount of Shu Uemura’s Uzu Cotton pomade to towel-dried hair before styling. It’s a lightweight, flexible product that still allows for movement so you can get the completely natural look with minimal effort.
