5 reasons a Paul Edmonds London luxury blow-dry is second to none
Our customised styling service is a cut above the rest.
When you want to look and feel your best, nothing beats a luxury blow-dry. No matter what kind of mood you’re in when you arrive at the salon, by the time you leave, having had your hair preened to perfection while you sit back enjoying a coffee or cocktail, you’ll be glad you indulged in some much-needed ‘me’ time.
“If your hair's done, it takes the stress away. You feel more confident in yourself,” says senior director Matilda Collins.
Director Lizzie Hearn agrees. “A blow-dry makes clients feel good. It saves time as well. Some clients' hair lasts really well, so they'll have a blow-dry once a week and not wash their own hair.”
Whether you’re a fan of regular blow-dries or prefer to save them for special occasions, you can be sure that at Paul Edmonds London, you’ll be treated to an exceptional styling service tailored to your hair needs, all while you relax for an hour in the luxurious surroundings of the Battersea Power Station salon with a delicious beverage in hand.
Here, Matilda and Lizzie run down all the reasons Paul Edmonds London offers the best luxury blow-dry experience in the city…
1. Every blow-dry is bespoke
Unlike blow-dry bars, which have a limited menu of options, at Paul Edmonds London, your stylist is the hair equivalent of a private chef who can whip you up a custom creation.
“With a blow-dry bar they show you look one, two, three, four and five and ask which do you want?” Matilda says, but a blow-dry appointment at our west London salon starts with a detailed consultation. “We’ll talk about what they'd like to achieve, ask what they've got coming up and what they're wearing. We might ask how their hair holds and can also help to make suggestions as well.”
While glossy waves are eternally stylish, it’s not just long hair that can benefit from a celebrity-worthy blow-dry, Matilda says. “Even if you have short hair, we could wrap-dry it to make it look sleek, or give it more body. We can create different looks on different styles of hair, it doesn't just have to be a massive, bouncy blowout.”
2. Hair health is always a priority
Because a blow-dry service involves heat styling, it’s important to focus on hair health, and that starts with a scalp assessment during the consultation.
“Sometimes people don't always know they've got a dry scalp or oily scalp, or they might be using the wrong shampoo,” Lizzie says. “All of us have got knowledge about scalp health and can teach clients how to look after their hair and scalp.”
At the backwash, our hairdressers normally start with two shampoos for a thorough scalp and hair cleanse, followed by conditioner or a deep treatment mask, Matilda explains. “It's tailored to things like whether they have their hair conditioned all over or just on the ends, whether we want to add shine or body. Unlike some other salons, which charge extra for masks, they’re included as part of our service.”
Preventing heat damage is paramount when it comes to drying and styling the hair, she adds. “We always use a heat protection spray, we don't use metal brushes, and if we can achieve the look with a brush and hairdryer rather than tongs, we will. That way it will hold longer as well.”
3. The styling team’s expertise
It may seem like blow drying is a relatively easy skill compared to cutting or colouring hair, but that’s not the case, Lizzie says. “To be able to do blow-dries at Paul Edmonds requires real training. Paul's very passionate about every team member being capable of creating the classic Knightsbridge glam blow-dry.”
But that’s not all, which is why all our stylists are trained to red carpet standard and have experience working with celebrities and models, she continues. “Everyone is an expert in their own right, so whoever sits in that stylist’s chair they’re able to create their desired look.”
4. Incredible product selection
With seven premium haircare brands stocked in the salon, our stylists have over 100 luxury products to choose from for your blow-dry, from shampoos and masks at the backwash through to serums and hair spray. They can cocktail products from Shu Uemura, Oribe, Oway, Kevin Murphy, Davines and Iles Formula to create the perfect combination to optimise your scalp and hair needs.
“We can tailor it according to how well their hair holds or how much volume they want,” Matilda says. “They can describe a look and, as long as it’s achievable with their hair type, we can create that, whereas it's not as easy to do at home.”
Cocktailing products is the first step in the Paul Edmonds London philosophy, laying the foundation for optimal hair health. Similar to treating a delicate fabric, preping the hair correctly allows your hairdresser to create the desired result while protecting your strands.
Asked to name a key blow-dry product from each of the brands the salon stocks, Lizzie started with Kérastase Resistance Ciment Thermique heat protection creme. “It’s strengthening but super lightweight, so it doesn't coat the hair, and it gives the highest level of heat protection, up to 230 degrees.”
From Shu Uemura, Matilda highlights Essence Absolue. “It’s my go-to because it's nourishing, but it's lightweight, so I'm still able to get hold and bounce in the hair, as opposed to a heavy oil that's going to make it too flat and heavy.”
Matilda loves the “massive range” of styling products from Oribe. “I'd say our most popular is the Maximista Thickening Spray. It’s a volume root spray that gives body without being tacky.”
From Oway, she favours Flux Potion, which is “like a liquid mousse, so it's a little easier to work with than a foam mousse, and it helps to give body and hold, but it's not as tacky,” while Kevin Murphy Anti.Gravity Spray is her top pick for “someone who doesn't really like the feel of hair spray but knows their hair drops quite quickly.”
For curly hair, Matilda highly recommends Davines Curl Building Serum. “It has a high level of heat protection and has a micro wax in it, so as you bend the hair, it holds the shape, but you can't really feel it in the hair.” And finally, Iles Formula Hard Water Shampoo is a blow-dry favourite because “it's just a really good all-rounder to make your hair feel amazing.”
5. Long-lasting results
With a celebrity-style Paul Edmonds London blow-dry, the combination of hairdresser expertise and professional products means you’ll leave the salon with a look that lasts, whether it’s curly and bouncy, smooth and sleek, or somewhere in between.
“A wash in salon versus a wash at home are two very different things, and we're able to get a lot more volume in the hair, so that prolongs the blow-dry as well,” Lizzie says.
Your stylist will also explain “how to extend the blow-dry, so whether to pin it up when they sleep,” Matilda says. “If someone's travelling for a wedding and they come in that morning, or the night before, sometimes we'll let them leave with their pins in to help give them as much longevity as possible.”
